The average person with the average stride living until 80 will walk a distance of around 110,000 miles. Your feet have 26 bones each, 33 joints, one quarter of all the bones in the body are found in your feet, there are over 7,000 nerve endings in your feet

 

Reflexology is an ancient form of therapy, it was practiced in China as long ago as 2330 BC and at the same time in Egypt, its even depicted in the tomb of Ankhmahor. There is also some evidence that the first people of the North America’s also practised a form of foot therapy.

 

Reflex is movement in response to stimuli, the reflexes on our feet correspond to our body, they act like mirrors.

 

Reflexology is also known as Zone Therapy it was ‘re-discovered’ by a Dr William Fitzgerald who gave it the name and brought it to the attention of the medical world between 1915 and 1917. An article called “To Stop that Toothache, Squeeze Your Toe” was published in 1915 which drew attention to his work.

 

 

Even today research is on-going, the University of Portsmouth is working on research into the effectiveness of Reflexology and pain reduction, finding 40% of people felt less pain and were able to stand pain for about 45% longer when they used reflexology as a method of pain relief.  Its believed that reflexology works in a similar way to acupuncture.

Reflexology will always begin with a full consultation, including health, diet and lifestyle, its during this process that any problems or symptoms can be discussed. Both feet will be worked on with firm pressure, reflexology is not ticklish. 

 

At Thistle Me This you will be treated to a warm foot bath using only organic products, whilst reflexology is briefly explained, you will you will then be invited to lie on the couch and covered, if required, by a blanket, your reflexologist will “greet your feet” and apply an organic medium of cream or wax, she will then request you to take some deep breaths whilst applying pressure to your solar plexus (points on the feet), the therapy will begin on the bottom and top of the right foot before moving to your left foot and finally finishing with a stretch and massage to both feet.
